Since 1972, the year that abortion was made legal in the United States, over 56.5 million lives have been taken. We realize that marching isn’t our only vehicle to change hearts. In fact, we believe that marching alone doesn’t change hearts. This pilgrimage aims to inspire, strengthen, and bond the community of young people in our diocese because we do believe through Christ and our own witness, hearts can be changed. We look to educate youth on the hope that Christ wishes to offer them and learn how we can overcome evils that threaten life through prayer, sacrifice, community, and service.
Check in begins at 5pm at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton on Tuesday, January 15, 2019. Families are invited to join for a Mass at 6pm. Buses will leave for Washington D.C. immediately following Mass. The buses will arrive back to St. Pius X, Appleton around 3pm on Sunday, January 20th.
We stay at the National 4H Center where students sleep four to a room. Each private room has two sets of bunk beds and a bathroom. Students select their roommates at the Parent-Student Meeting on Saturday, January 5th.
We currently do not have scholarship opportunities from a diocesan level, but we encourage each person to ask their local Knights of Columbus or pro-life clubs in their parishes.
Lamers Buses provides coach buses that transport us to and around Washington D.C. Small groups do plenty of walking around Washington D.C., however, so bring some good walking shoes!
The pilgrimage to Washington D.C. costs $500. A deposit of $250 is due at the time of registration. The remaining balance is due at the parent-student meeting on Sat, Jan 6th. The cost includes lodging, transportation, and food while at the national 4H cafeteria. Students will pay for 6 meals above and beyond what is covered in the cost, so we advise bringing an extra $100. All sight-seeing is free to the Smithsonian Museums and monuments. Adult chaperones pay $300.
Each small group has two chaperones who are VIRTUS trained and attend a training session prior to the March for Life. The chaperones have 6-9 students who are in their small group who they watch, walk with, and disciple. All chaperones have contact with the larger group leader and will be attending to your son or daughter throughout the pilgrimage. The large group hosts many full group activities as well.
Students in Attendance
From our diocese, we usually take around 150 pilgrims. From around the nation, there are thousands of students who pilgrimage from their schools and parishes to join in one voice of peace and prayer for the lives of all.
